Launched in 2002, Sorento has enhanced the Kia brand image with its popularity in the market in Korea and abroad. The Sorento builds on this strong momentum, but with a more refined style. It is a CUV designed for the urban lifestyle delivering Kia’s distinctive emotional appeal.

Design Factors
The new Sorento’s design incorporates the agility of a cheetah, the minimal lines of modern architecture and hi-tech sophistication. Attention to the finer details and Kia’s design DNA make new Sorento the perfect answer to city living.

Somehow familiar, yet never seen before
While keeping the solid surface feeling of its predecessor, new Sorento incorporates Kia’s Design Identity elements and the latest design trends to project a completely new profile.

For a more stable CUV body, we adopted a monocoque frame to replace the widely used body-on-frame. The result is a lighter vehicle and greater fuel economy, a quiet and comfortable ride usually offered only luxury sedans and a more spacious interior. We increased the car length but reduced the height to create a futuristic stance and elegant proportions.

Another unique feature is the simple lines and form of the side body. The deep character line and belt line emphasize speed and agility, while the two-tone bumper and accentuated wheel volume arch adds a bold and powerful touch.

Kia’s signature radiator grille and headlamp layout convey a harmonious look previously seen in the Optima (Magentis), Soul, and Forte (all-new Cerato).

Touch the driver’s heart
The interior was designed with convenience in mind. Featuring the Kia Design Identity and hi-tech details, it caters to the demands of today’s busy urbanites.

With its carbon finish and chrome details, New Sorento has a sporty feel. We took the cues from images of an invigorating workout on the treadmill and upscale sportswear. Driving at night becomes a more dramatic experience thanks to mood lighting on the door garnish and negative LCD for the audio system, first applied in the Mohave (Borrego). Lower tray lighting of the center fascia provides added convenience.

Other notable Design elements factors include red and bright white lighting for the 3-cylinder cluster and user-friendly audio switch positioning.

A roomy console tray that comes with an extra portable tray (can hold a 14-inch notebook PC) provides ample storage space. A tray is also available under the center fascia.

New Sorento is Kia’s first new vehicle launch in 2009. Satisfaction is not limited to owning or driving the vehicle. The real value of new Sorento stems from the emotional connection between the car and the driver.

Kia designer’s will continue to create new value that reflects customers’ thoughts and emotions.

KIA MOTORS AMERICA INTRODUCES FORTE KOUP

Kia Adds Design-Focused Two-Door Coupe to Forte Lineup

Newest vehicle offers distinctive Kia style, value and safety features

Sporty features and capabilities make Kia’s first-ever two-door a true driver’s car
NEW YORK, April 9, 2009 – With performance-inspired, aggressive and sleek styling, Kia Motors America (KMA) today globally debuted the 2010 Forte Koup production vehicle during a press conference at the 2009 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS). Joining the Forte family in the KMA lineup, the company’s first-ever two-door coupe embodies the brand’s current bold design direction first seen on the concept version of the Soul urban passenger vehicle in 2006.
“On the heel of the introductions of the Soul and Forte sedan, Forte Koup represents the next exciting step in the transformation of Kia design and offers a blend of sporty and emotional appeal,” said Michael Sprague, vice president, marketing, KMA. “We believe our new design evolution coupled with standard Kia value and safety features will continue to attract customers to the Kia brand.”

Curb Appeal
Based on the design styling of the KOUP concept vehicle shown during last year’s show, Forte Koup’s fluid lines and balanced proportions, meant to evoke an emotional driving experience, closely mirror the powerful design cues of the concept vehicle and offer the same aggressive stance with swept-back wrap-around headlamps, aggressive air intakes and a low, sleek profile. Available in two trim levels (EX and SX), Forte Koup offers a muscular yet sophisticated design. Even from behind, Forte Koup exudes attitude with slim, wrapped tail lights, duel exhaust outlets and a rear diffuser.
Athleticism and convenience are standard for the Forte Koup EX with body-color bumpers, power heated outside mirrors with integrated turn signals and 16-inch alloy wheels outfitted with P205/55R16 tires. The SX trim offers an even sportier profile with 17-inch alloy wheels paired with P215/45R17-sized premium tires.

Smooth and Sporty Ride
With a wheelbase of 104.3 inches, an overall length of 176.4 inches, an overall width of 69.5 inches and overall height of 55.1 inches, Forte Koup is slightly shorter in length and height than the Forte sedan, but still boasts comfortable seating for up to five passengers. Koup’s lowered stance provides better aerodynamics for those looking for a more exciting ride.
The Kia-engineered body achieves high torsional stiffness giving Forte Koup better handling, smoother ride quality and greater refinement than its competitors, with a specially tuned suspension developed to optimize responsive handling on curvy roads. Additional refinements are fitted throughout to help ensure a comfortable ride with good noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) reduction qualities.
Built on a front-wheel-drive unibody frame, Forte Koup utilizes the same platform as the sedan, with an independent front suspension with MacPherson struts and stabilizer bar and a torsion beam rear suspension with struts and coil springs. This combination helps provide the optimal balance of handling and comfort. An engine-speed-sensitive, power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering system adds the finishing touch for precise handling to help provide the most advantageous amount of assist for varying road conditions. The SX trim also comes with a sport-tuned suspension providing for a firmer ride with reduced body roll and improved handling.

Lively Performance
More powerful than the Honda Civic Coupe, Ford Focus Coupe or Chevrolet Cobalt Coupe, Forte Koup EX is driven by a 2.0-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine, producing 156 horsepower and 144 pound-feet of torque that features Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) and multi-port electronic fuel injection, both of which provide for greater performance and fuel economy. The SX features an upgraded 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine, also with CVVT, which delivers 173 horsepower and 168 pound-feet of torque, more than the Scion tC. Expanding upon the dynamic look and feel, Forte Koup’s engine hums powerfully courtesy of the dual exhaust outlets outfitted on both EX and SX trims.
Like the Forte sedan, two transmission options are available for both 2010 Forte Koup models: a standard five-speed manual transmission or an optional electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission (EX models). The SX model features a standard six-speed manual transmission and an optional five-speed automatic transmission with Sportmatic®.

Forte Koup fuel economy is not sacrificed for sportiness, as both engines deliver at least 31 miles per gallon (highway). The 2.0-liter engine offers 25/34 mpg (city/highway) when mated with either the five-speed manual transmission or the optional four-speed automatic. Those opting for the more powerful 2.4-liter engine also can expect an economical 22/32 mpg with the six-speed manual and 23/31 when paired with the five-speed automatic transmission.

Striking Interior
With a surprisingly spacious interior for a two-door coupe, Forte Koup provides a comfortable 90.7 cubic feet of interior volume, larger than the 2009 Honda Civic Coupe, Scion tC or Chevrolet Cobalt Coupe. Driver and passengers have an impressive 38.7 inches of headroom and 43.6 inches of legroom in the front seats and 35.3 inches of headroom and 33.9 inches of legroom in the rear seats. Trips to the beach and weekend getaways will be a breeze with ample cargo space of 12.6 cubic feet, enough to accommodate luggage and belongings of all passengers.
Forte Koup continues the luxury treatment with a host of standard interior features, beginning with supportive, nicely appointed sport seats outfitted with more aggressive bolsters on the seat cushion and seat back for optimal comfort. Air conditioning, a driver’s seat height adjuster, adjustable rear seat headrests, tilt steering column, rear defroster, center console with dual cup holders, map lamps and variable intermittent wipers are also just some of the myriad amenities standard on every vehicle. Also standard on all models are power windows, power door locks with remote keyless entry and cruise control with steering wheel-mounted controls for added convenience.
Progressing to the SX trim offers additional standard touches such as: unique sport cloth seats with vibrant red stitching, a tilt and telescoping steering column, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, metal pedals and metal finish trim and a Supervision™ gauge cluster with trip computer further enhancing its energetic personality. Both EX and SX trims also offer an optional power moonroof.
An optional Leather Package is available for both EX and SX trims. When combined with the EX trim the Leather Package adds leather seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob and heated seats. When paired with the SX trim it includes leather and heated seats in addition to the standard leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob.

Superior Sound
For inside entertainment while cruising down the road, Forte Koup comes with a standard six-speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio system outfitted with SIRIUS Satellite Radio capabilities with three months complimentary service1. For added listening convenience steering wheel-mounted audio controls also come standard on all models, as well as USB and auxiliary input jacks in the center console with full iPod® and MP3 controllability via the audio head unit. Standard Bluetooth® connectivity enables hands-free operation for compatible cell phones.
Standard Kia Motors Safety
Forte Koup offers a class-leading level of standard safety equipment, with features such as dual front advanced airbags, front seat-mounted and side curtain airbags, four-wheel disc brakes with an antilock brake system (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC) and a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
Industry-Leading Warranty
Like all Kia models, Forte Koup is covered by a comprehensive warranty program, which offers unprecedented consumer protection. Included in this program are a 10-year or 100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, a five-year or 60,000-mile limited basic warranty, and a five-year or 100,000-mile anti-perforation warranty. A five-year/60,000-mile roadside assistance plan is also part of the comprehensive coverage program.

Kia Motors America Product Line
Kia Motors America offers a dynamic and diverse product line of 12 vehicles to meet the needs of all lifestyles. The vehicle line features the functional Rondo CUV and award-winning Sedona minivan along with a wide variety of popular passenger cars, including the refined Amanti full-size sedan, purposeful Optima midsize sedan, versatile and compact Spectra and Spectra5, and sporty yet fuel-efficient Rio and Rio5 subcompacts. The vehicle line also features the affordably luxurious Borrego, rugged Sorento and value-packed Sportage SUVs. KIA KOUP Q&A

Hello to all bloggers on Kia Buzz.

Kia Motors officially launched the Forte (Cerato) KOUP in the Korean market on June 11. Since then, this model has drawn much interest among bloggers. The Kia BUZZ editorial team would like to answer some of the many questions about Forte (Cerato) KOUP that have been floating around online.

Let’s get started.

Question 1
Why does Kia use the reflector headlamp instead of projection headlamp?

koup-head-lamp

Forte (Cerato) KOUP was developed as a sporty yet affordable coupe. The projection type headlamp provides better brightness compared to reflector type. However, the reflector type was used in Forte (Cerato) KOUP since there is minimal difference in brightness versus the projection type and to provide a car at a reasonable price.

Question 2
Does Forte (Cerato) KOUP have a push start button? Also, is it equipped with Bluetooth?

Yes, the push start button will be available upon launch in Asia, Middle East and East Europe. (It will be available from September 2009 in Australia and Singapore.)
Bluetooth will be available only in North America.

Question 3
Some say Forte (Cerato) KOUP has a similar front appearance as Honda Civic Type R. Is that true?

Any resemblance to the Civic Type R is simply coincidental. The Forte Koup’s fascia was built upon the Forte sedan’s theme and began before the Civic Type R was ever debuted. We do believe that if you saw the two cars side by side, the Koup would be distinctively different in terms of proportions and graphic treatment.

Question 4
What is the engine in Forte (Cerato) KOUP? What about the transmission?

Forte (Cerato) KOUP is powered by one of three gasoline engines (Gamma 1.6L, ThetaⅡ 2.0L or ThetaⅡ 2.4L). Most market will get the 1.6 and 2.0 engines while the 2.0 and 2.4 will be available in North America. All engines boast high performance and fuel efficiency. The two engines are currently used in the Forte (Cerato) Sedan.
Drivers can choose from either a 6-speed manual (for 2.4L) & 5-speed manual or 5-spped automatic (for 2.4L) & 4-speed automatic transmission. With its superior acceleration and overtaking power compared to competing models, Forte (Cerato) KOUP delivers sporty driving performance.

Question 5
Does the rear diffuser on Forte (Cerato) KOUP have a functional purpose? Or is it there for style only?

The rear diffuser enhances cross wind stability. That is, it boosts driving stability when cornering at high speeds. It will be useful if you are speeding along winding roads. (But always remember to drive safe!) The rear diffuser also gives the car a sportier look.

Question 6
Does Forte (Cerato) KOUP share the same platform with cee’d?

Yes, the two models share the same platform. And platform-sharing is a global trend. However, the cars are not alike since they get additional tuning depending on their respective traits.

We hope the answers to the six questions satisfied some of your curiosities. If you have other questions, please post them below and we will try our best to answer them.

Kia distributor counts on new models and better economy

KUALA LUMPUR: Naza Kia Sdn Bhd, the official distributor of Kia vehicles in the country, expects a 64% growth in sales to 18,000 units in 2011, boosted by new model launches and a better economy seen next year.

Chief operating officer Datuk Syed Abdull Hafiz Syed Abu Bakar said he expected the momentum in total industry volume (TIV) in Malaysia this year, which is headed for a record high of 570,000 units, to continue into 2011.

We saw a 33% growth in sales from January to September this year. If this momentum can be maintained or improved next year, it would be good, he said.

Hafiz said this after the company launched the new Naza Kia Sorento sport-utility vehicle (SUV) at the opening of Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS) 2010 yesterday.

From left: Datuk Syed Abdull Hafiz Syed Abu Bakar, Kia Motors Corpgeneral manager and head of Asia-Pacific regional office S.P. Choi and SM Nasarudin SM Nasimuddin posing with the new Kia Sorento.

The Malaysian Automotive Association has forecast TIV for 2010 to hit 570,000, its highest ever since reaching 552,316 units in 2005.

Hafiz said Naza Kia was targeting to grow its market share to 3% next year from 2% currently. We are a niche player in the market, he said, adding that it aimed to sell 100 to 150 units of the Sorento every month.

Hafiz said the company had received 251 bookings for the SUV, which would cost below RM160,000.

Currently, Naza Kia’s best-seller is the Forte sedan, which accounts for 55% of its total sales.

Hafiz said the company was on track to meet its target of selling 11,000 vehicles this year.

He said it would launch five new models in the next eight months to boost sales.

Besides the new Sorento, Naza Kia also displayed the latest Kia Optima, Forte Koup and Cadenza at KLIMS 2010, which will run till Dec 12.

Meanwhile, Nasim Sdn Bhd, which is also a member of the Naza group and distributor of Peugeot cars in Malaysia, aims to sell 1,200 units of its newly launched 5008 multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).

Nasim chief operating officer Samson George said the company had received 10 bookings for the vehicle. The 5008 costs RM159,888.

Naza joint group executive chairman SM Nasarudin SM Nasimuddin said the company was targeting to sell 3,000 Peugeot vehicles this year. It initially aimed to sell 3,500 units.

This is because we have undelivered orders for 1,000 units, so (in actuality) we have already surpassed our target for this year.

We’ve had supply issues with certain models that have been a hit in other countries, he said.

Nasarudin said Nasim aimed to sell 6,700 Peugeot vehicles next year.
